Charulatha

Chindatripet is where we are located, specifically on Ulagappa Maistri Street. Our shop number is thirteen. If you know where the Jain Koil is, we are just around the backside of that temple. It is a very old part of Chennai, and the streets are quite narrow and winding. Charulatha has been here for a good amount of time now. The building is older, so it has a certain character and feel to it that you do not see in new places. We do not have much room inside, but we have organized the chairs and tables to make it work as best as we can. Most days it is just us and the regulars who live in the nearby lanes. We hear the temple bells throughout the day, which is quite a nice sound to work to. Sometimes the street gets blocked by a vegetable cart or a delivery truck, but that is just life in Chindatripet. We spend a lot of our time cleaning the combs and checking our stock of threads and creams. It is a quiet business for the most part. People come in, get what they need, and we talk about the local news or how high the prices are at the market. We do not try to be something we are not. It is just a local place to get fixed up. The lighting inside is not the brightest, but we know exactly where everything is kept.
