St Xavier Street is no different. We have been here for a long time. The shop has seen many generations pass through. It’s a tight space. We are packed with everything we sell. Sometimes it feels like we’re bursting at the seams. There’s no air conditioning. We just have the ceiling fans moving the humid air around. People come in from all over the city. They know they can find what they need in these lanes. We don’t do any big advertising. Word of mouth has always been enough for us. The morning starts early here. We try to beat the worst of the heat and the crowds. By midday, the street is so full of carts and bikes that it’s hard to move. We know all the neighboring shopkeepers. We all look out for each other. It’s a traditional way of doing business. No fancy website or corporate structure exists here. It is just us at number 99 helping out whoever comes in. It’s a simple life. We are happy to be part of the Parrys community. We've seen kids grow up and take over their fathers' shops nearby. We stayed right here in this same spot and kept working every day.
