Living and working around the Meenambakkam area in Chennai means you get very used to the sound of planes overhead. Our office is at Ta-96 in the A.A.I. Residential Colony, which is a pretty specific spot if you aren't from around here. It is a government-style setup, so things have a certain way of being done that never really changes. The colony itself is where a lot of us live too, so work and home kind of blend together for most of the people here. We spend our days dealing with various bits of paperwork and coordination that come with being part of the Airports Authority of India. It isn't always exciting; there is a lot of sitting at desks and going through folders while the humidity hangs in the air. Chennai is always a bit hot, and the office at Ta-96 is no different. We walk to work across the colony, maybe stop for a quick coffee, and then settle in for the day. There is a lot of routine involved in what we do. We aren't out there on the runways ourselves, but we handle the stuff that happens behind the scenes in the residential and administrative side of things. It is a quiet community in its own way, despite being so close to the main airport. We just keep things moving, follow the rules, and try to stay cool when the sun is really beating down on the colony buildings.
