Aba Modern Rice Mill

Down on Walaja Street at No. 51, things are pretty much the same every day. We are located in the Pattu area, not too far from the Mangadu Post. Aba Modern Rice Mill is where we spend the bulk of our time. It might say modern in the name, but we still do things in a very hands-on way around here. The street outside can get a bit narrow when the bigger trucks try to turn in, which usually causes a bit of a stir with the neighbors. We try to get the milling done early in the day so the heat doesn't get to us too much. There’s always a fine layer of dust on everything, no matter how much we sweep. People from the surrounding villages bring their paddy here, and we get to work. It’s a lot of lifting and moving bags around. Sometimes we stop for tea at the little stall down the road when the machines need a break. We don't have a fancy website or a bunch of managers in suits. It’s just us in our work clothes making sure the rice is cleaned and sorted. We’ve been at this spot for a while now, and most of the locals know the sound of our engines. It’s a steady rhythm that defines our weeks. We just handle the grain as it comes and try to stay out of the rain.
