Thiruporur Women Farmer Producer Company Limited

We are a group of women from around Thirunilai Village and Oragadam. Our office is right there on Earikarai Street at number 2/24. It’s not a big place, just where we meet to sort out the farming stuff. We started this because we all have land nearby and it’s easier to handle things together rather than on our own. Most days you’ll find some of us sitting there talking about seeds or what’s happening with the weather. It’s a lot of work running a farm, especially for the women here who also have to look after their homes. We bring our crops here and try to figure out the logistics of selling them without getting a bad deal. The street gets a bit busy sometimes but everyone knows where we are. We don’t have fancy computers or anything, just some ledgers and our own experience from years in the fields. It’s a local effort. We grew up here, we know these lands. Sometimes the rain doesn't come when we need it, and other times there's too much of it. That is just how life goes in Oragadam. We help each other out with tools or just advice when someone is having a hard time with their harvest. It isn't a corporate setup. We just want to make sure the work we do in the sun actually puts food on the table for our kids and families. It is just basic survival and trying to do things right.
