Tata Steel

We are located at 1062 in Sector 37B, which is a nice part of Chandigarh. If you know the city, you know how everything is laid out in blocks and sectors, so finding us isn’t too hard. It’s much quieter here than at the steel plants. The streets are lined with trees and there’s usually plenty of parking nearby. Our office is more like a house that’s been turned into a workspace, so it has a comfortable, lived-in feeling. We don't have hundreds of people running around like they do at the main headquarters. It’s just a few of us handling the local side of things for Tata Steel. Sometimes the internet is a bit slow, or the mail arrives later than we expect, but we manage just fine. In the winters, it gets quite chilly, so we keep a heater under the desk to stay warm while we’re typing up reports. The garden outside needs a bit of work, but we like having the green space nearby. It’s a very different pace of life here in Chandigarh compared to the industrial towns. We start at nine and usually wrap things up by the evening, unless something urgent comes up. We don’t really do big meetings or fancy presentations here. It’s mostly just us at our desks, getting through the paperwork and answering the occasional phone call from Jamshedpur or Kolkata. It is steady and predictable work, which suits us just fine.
