Takiar Variety House

Gandhi Bazar Main Road is always noisy, but that's just how it is in Sector 22. We are at number 254. Being a variety house means we have a lot of different things tucked away in corners. It can get a bit crowded inside, especially when a delivery comes in and we haven't put everything away yet. The morning starts with pulling up the shutters and sweeping the front bit of the pavement. I usually have my tea while watching the traffic start to build up. People come in looking for all sorts of small items. Some stay to chat for a minute, others are in a big rush. We’ve been here long enough that the kids who used to come in with their parents are now coming in on their own. The shelves are high and sometimes I need the little stool to reach the top ones. It’s a bit dusty behind the counter, no matter how much I clean. Takiar Variety House is just a local place for the neighborhood. We don't have a website or anything like that. You just walk in and see what we've got. It’s practical. Sometimes we run out of something and have to wait a few days for more. That’s just part of it. Sector 22 is a good area, very lively. We like being right on the main road where everything happens. It's a lot of work but it feels right to be here.
