Shobh Raj Trunk Maker

My father used to say that a trunk should last longer than the house it sits in. We are over here at Subh Labh Society in Manimajra, right near the Satadhar Cross Road at house 153. It is a noisy place sometimes because of all the metal work going on. I spend most of my mornings cutting sheets and bending edges. People come by for all sorts of things, mostly big boxes for storage or travel. It’s not fancy. The floor is usually covered in scrap pieces and the tools are old but they still work fine. Sometimes the sun hits the shop floor and it gets quite warm inside. I have lived around here for a long time. This shop is just what it is. We don't have a big staff, just a couple of us doing the heavy lifting and making sure the lids fit tight. The neighborhood has changed quite a bit over the years but house 153 stays pretty much the same. If you are walking down Satadhar Cross Road, you can probably hear the hammering before you see the sign. It’s a lot of manual labor, and my hands are always a bit rough from the galvanized iron. We handle things one by one. There isn't any fancy assembly line or computer system here. Just a workbench and some pliers and a lot of patience. If you need a trunk, this is where we do the work every day except maybe Sundays when things quiet down.
