Chahabra Gas & Stove Works

We've been at 116 Veerabadrappa Road in Sector 15 for quite some time. It's a small place, mostly filled with spare parts and old stoves. Chahabra Gas & Stove Works isn't the kind of place with a lobby or air conditioning. We have tools everywhere because there is always something to fix. People bring in their old burners that won't light or stoves that are leaking. It’s practical work. My hands are usually covered in soot by lunch. The street outside can get pretty noisy, but we’re used to it. We know most of the families around here because everyone needs their stove working to eat. We don't spend money on fancy signs. The one we have tells you exactly what we do. If a part is broken, we look for a replacement in the bins. Sometimes it takes a bit of time to find the right fit for an older model. We don’t rush things because gas isn't something to play with. It's just a local shop run by local people. We started because there was a need in Sector 15. We’ve stayed because we like the work. There’s a certain rhythm to it. Every day is different depending on what people bring through the door. Some days it’s just small repairs, other days we’re rebuilding a whole unit. We just keep the doors open and do the job. It’s a simple living that keeps us busy enough and we are happy with that.
