At Sector 22 in Sai Baba Nagar, you’ll find us at 2927. The shop is mostly filled with black battery casings and the smell of lead and acid. It’s a heavy job, literally, because these batteries weigh a lot. We spend the day testing old batteries and putting new ones on the charging racks. My clothes usually have a few small holes in them from the battery acid, but you get used to that after a while. People come in when their cars won’t start or their home inverters stop working, so they are usually in a bit of a hurry. We just check the voltage and see if it can be fixed or if they need a new one. The workbench is always cluttered with wires, pliers, and voltmeters. It’s not a very clean environment, but it’s where we do our work. We have a small stool for customers to sit on while they wait, though most people just stand around and watch us work. The floor is stained from years of spills. We don’t do much advertising; people just know we are here in the neighborhood. It’s steady work and it keeps us busy from morning until we close the shutters at night. We keep a few spare cables in the corner for emergencies. It’s just a plain shop that does what it’s supposed to do for the people in Sai Baba Nagar.
