Ashok Aggarwal works out of 149 Sector 11. It’s a nice, quiet part of the city, quite different from the noisy markets or the industrial zones. The office is basically a part of the house that has been taken over by books and papers. Being a senior advocate means there is a lot of history in these rooms. The walls are lined with thick law books that have been collected over many years. There is an old-fashioned feel to the place, with heavy wooden chairs and a large desk that is always covered in folders. Most of the work involves a lot of reading and quiet thinking, so we try to keep the noise down. Visitors usually come by appointment, and they sit in the small waiting area where it’s mostly silent except for the ticking of a clock. I spend a lot of time preparing for court, which means late nights with just a desk lamp on. It’s a serious kind of environment, but we try to keep it friendly for the people who come seeking help. We’ve been in Sector 11 for a long time, and we like the peace and quiet of the neighborhood. It’s not a corporate firm with glass walls; it’s just a place where legal work gets done carefully and slowly. Sometimes we sit out in the small garden during lunch just to get some air before heading back to the files.
