Thareja Sweets

You can find Thareja Sweets at Timarpur New Market 20. This market has been around for a long time and the buildings look a bit old now. Our shop has a high ceiling which is nice because it stays a bit cooler, but we still have big fans running. We have a lot of space in the back where we keep the massive brass pots for boiling milk. It takes hours of stirring to get the consistency right for some of the sweets. My arms are usually sore by the time we close the shop at night. We do not do much in the way of decoration. There are some old calendars on the wall and a small shelf for our accounts books. The floor is made of grey stone and it gets very cold in the winter months, so we have to wear thick socks and sweaters while we work. We use simple cardboard boxes for packing and we tie them with a piece of thin string. Most of the people who come here are neighbors we have known for twenty years. We sit on small stools behind the counter and drink tea when there are no customers. If we have a bad day with the power or a delivery is late, we just deal with it. It is not a complicated business. We just make the sweets and sell them until the trays are empty.
