If you know Chawri Bazar, then you know how Gali Bajrang Bali is. It’s a narrow lane and it’s always packed with people and rickshaws. We are at number 3482, and it’s a spot that has seen a lot of history. Moti Ram Jain & Sons is a name that’s been around the neighborhood for a long time now. The shop is small and stuffed with items from floor to ceiling. You have to know exactly where everything is or you’ll never find it. Usually, there’s a couple of us sitting near the front, drinking tea and waiting for the next person to walk in. It’s noisy outside with the bells of the rickshaws and people haggling over prices, but inside it’s just the usual business. We don’t have a website or fancy brochures. People just come to the Gali and find us. The walls are a bit dusty and the shelves are old wood, but they hold everything just fine. Most of our customers are people who have been coming to us for years, and now their kids come too. It’s a family thing, through and through. We don’t put on any acts or try to sound like a big corporation. We are just here in the market, doing what we’ve always done. The afternoon sun barely reaches down into the lane, so it stays a bit dim in the back of the shop, but we like it that way. It’s just how we live.
