Birendra Sharma

I work out of Tis Hazari Main Road, right at number 20. If you know the area, you know how hectic it can be. There are people everywhere and the noise from the main road never really stops. My office is Birendra Sharma’s place, and it’s tucked away in one of the older buildings. The entrance is a bit narrow and the stairs are quite steep, but you get used to it after a few weeks. I spend most of my hours here. It’s a lot of manual work and looking over documents. The fan in the corner makes a rhythmic clicking sound that I’ve stopped noticing. People come in with all sorts of issues and I try to help them out as best as I can. It’s a very grounded kind of life. There are no fancy computers or high-tech gadgets here. Just the basics. Number 20 Tis Hazari Main Road has been my base for a long time. I’ve seen the shops around me change owners many times, but I’m still here. Lunch is usually something quick from one of the stalls nearby. The tea here is strong and that helps when the afternoon slump hits. I don’t have a big philosophy about what I do. I just show up every morning and leave every evening. It’s a living, and it keeps me connected to the heart of the city and its people.
