We run our business from Plot No 5 in E Block, Nehru Vihar. It’s a local neighborhood spot, and we have been here for quite some time. The main thing you notice when you walk in is the heat from the steam irons. There are rows and rows of clothes hanging on metal racks, all covered in thin plastic sheets. We spend the whole day washing, drying, and pressing. It is a lot of repetitive work, but we are used to it by now. The floor is usually a bit damp and there is always the smell of detergent in the air. We know most of the people who live in Nehru Vihar because they come in once a week with their laundry. We have an old counter where we write down the tags and give out the slips. Sometimes people lose their receipts and we have to go hunting through the racks to find their shirts. It’s a small shop and it gets very crowded when a big delivery comes in. The fans on the ceiling spin all day long but they don't do much against the steam. We stay open late most nights because that's when people are coming home from work and want to pick up their clothes. It’s not an easy job, standing on your feet all day, but it is what we know how to do. We don't have fancy machines, just the ones that work. We just take care of the clothes and keep things simple for everyone.
