Anurag Hair Saloon

You can find our saloon in Gali No 3, right on Arakasha Road in Pahar Ganj. If you know Pahar Ganj, you know how packed the lanes get with travelers, carts, and cows. Our shop is small, just enough room for the chairs and a place for people to wait. We have been here for a long time, watching the crowds go by. The mirrors are a bit clouded at the edges, and the chairs have that old leather smell. We do a lot of quick shaves for guys staying in the nearby hotels or locals who live just down the alley. There is usually a bit of dust coming in from the road, so we are always wiping down the counters. We use the traditional razors and sharpen them on the leather strops. It is a skill that takes time to get right. We do not have a TV or anything, just the sounds of the street and maybe a small radio in the back. Sometimes the water pressure is low, so we have to use the buckets, but we manage. People like to sit and have a smoke while they wait their turn. It is a very simple setup. We are not trying to be anything other than a local barber shop. It is a tough neighborhood to work in sometimes because of the noise and the crowds, but it is our home. We just keep the scissors moving and the customers coming in and out of Gali No 3.
