Lakheri is one of those places where the history of the industry is written in the walls. Our office is at SSQ-14 in the Iswar Nagar Colony. Being in the Bundi district of Rajasthan, the landscape is dry and the sun is usually pretty intense. The Acc Ltd site here has been around for ages, and most of the families in the colony have been involved with the plant for generations. It’s a small, tight community. When you walk into our workspace, you won't see anything flashy. It is just a collection of desks and filing cabinets that have seen better days. We spend our time managing the day-to-day operations of the local works. There’s a lot of dust, which is just part of the deal when you work in cement in Rajasthan. We don’t use a lot of fancy words to describe what we do. We just make sure the production stays on track and the workers are sorted. During the lunch break, we usually sit under whatever shade we can find and talk about things other than work, like local events or the price of groceries. It’s a very grounded way to live. This colony has a specific rhythm to it that follows the shifts at the plant. We aren't trying to impress anyone with big talk. We just show up at Iswar Nagar every morning and do what needs to be done. It’s a life built on routine and hard work.
