Vedi Ram Inter College

Down in Kehrola, near Khurja in Bulandshahr, you’ll find Vedi Ram Inter College. It’s been a part of this community for quite a while. We handle the older kids, being an inter college. The building is solid and has seen many seasons pass. It sits in a place that feels very much like the heart of the village area. People around here are mostly farmers or workers, and their children come to us for their final years of schooling. We have several classrooms that are usually full. The benches are simple wood and the walls have a few charts hanging up. It’s a practical place. We don’t have air conditioning or anything like that; we just use the ceiling fans when the electricity is on. The staff room is small and always smells like tea because we like to have a cup between our classes. Teachers talk about the lessons and how the students are coping with the exams. Bulandshahr can be quite cold in the winter, so everyone wraps up in heavy sweaters. In the summer, it’s the opposite. We just deal with the weather and keep the books open. It’s not a glamorous job, but it’s important to the families here in Kehrola. We are just local people running a local college. We don’t make big promises, we just try to get the students through their boards so they can figure out what comes next for them.
