Navkisaan Utsav Agro Farmers Producer Company Limited is run right out of Nai Basti in Kemri. If you know the area, you know where Abdul Nabi’s place is, near the Takia. It’s a busy spot in Bilaspur where people are always moving around, mostly farmers coming in from the nearby fields to talk shop. We aren't some big city corporation with a glass building; we're just a bunch of guys who decided that coming together made more sense than working alone. Most of our days are spent sitting around in the office or out in the dirt, talking about seeds, the price of fertilizer, or why the harvest wasn’t as big as last year. It’s practical work. My father, Ahmad Banimoh, taught me that you have to respect the land if you want it to give anything back, and that’s basically what we try to keep in mind every day. Bilaspur has some good land but it’s not always easy to make a living off it. We help each other out with the logistics of getting things to market because that’s the part that usually trips people up. It gets pretty dusty and hot around here in the summer, and the paperwork can be a real headache, but we manage. We aren’t looking to be famous or anything. We just want to make sure the farmers in Kemri have a way to keep their heads above water without getting lost in the shuffle.
