Harshit Tent Palace

We stay busy here in Bikaner, right outside the Pabubari Gate. Most days involve loading up the trucks with bamboo poles and heavy fabric. It gets pretty dusty and hot around here, but the work has to happen. We’ve been at this spot for a while now. People usually come by when they have a big family gathering or some local function. We don’t have a fancy office or anything. It is mostly just stacks of chairs and rolls of carpets that we keep moving from one place to another. Sometimes the ropes get tangled or the weather makes things hard, but that is just how it goes with this kind of work. When the sun is out, the work is exhausting, but it feels good to see the tents finally standing up. We spend a lot of time checking the fabric for tears or making sure the poles are sturdy enough for the wind. It’s not a quiet job. There is always the sound of hammers or people shouting instructions. We just stick to what we know. Most of our day is spent outdoors, either here in the yard or at some site across town. We don't talk much about goals or anything like that. We just make sure we get the stuff where it needs to go on time. It is a simple way to make a living, honestly. Just physical work and keeping track of all the inventory we have stored here.
