Berhampur is where we are based. Our office for The Sambad Oriya Daily is right at Tata Benz Square, which is a really busy spot in town. If you know the area, you know how much traffic passes through there every single day. We’ve been at this location for a long time now. The building isn't anything fancy, just a regular workplace where we get the newspaper ready. Most of our mornings start with the sound of the printing machinery and the smell of fresh ink. It’s a bit noisy, but we are used to it by now. There are several desks scattered around the room, mostly piled high with old copies and handwritten notes. We don't have a big corporate lobby or anything like that. People just walk in if they need to talk to someone about an ad or a story. Ganjam gets very hot, so our fans are always running at full speed. We drink a lot of tea from the small stall just outside the gates. It’s a simple life here in Orissa. We just focus on getting the news out on time. Some days the power cuts out and we have to scramble, but that’s just part of working here. We aren't trying to be anything we aren't.
