Archaeological Survey Of India

This office is tucked away in the Oldtown area of Bhubaneswar. It can be a bit hard to find if you don't know the way through Dakrabhivisan Lane. We are located at Plot No. 2269/7. The Archaeological Survey Of India has a small team of us working here. The address is actually listed under Dr. G.C.Chauley’s name. We spend most of our time looking at old things—stones, ruins, and bits of history from all over Orissa. It’s a quiet place to work, though the street outside can get a bit loud with the traffic. We have rows and rows of maps and files that have been here since before I started. Some of the papers are starting to get a bit brittle. We aren't out digging in the dirt every single day, even though that’s what people think we do. A lot of it is just keeping track of the monuments and making sure nobody is building things where they shouldn't. The 751002 area has a lot of history in every corner, so there is always something to check on. We are a small group of people who just really like history. We drink a lot of chai and talk about old temples. It’s not the most exciting job for everyone, but we think it is important to keep these things around for the future.
