Sai Nursery

Sai Nursery sits right on the Main Road at A/56 in Shahpura. You can’t miss the green when you drive past. It’s a lot of dirt, pots, and plants of all sizes. We spend most of our mornings watering everything before the sun gets too high. It’s a lot of bending over and getting your hands in the soil. We have rows of different flowers and some fruit trees toward the back. Shahpura gets busy, so there’s always dust from the road settling on the leaves. We have to wipe them down sometimes so they look healthy. It’s not a quiet job, with the cars zooming by at A/56, but being around the plants is nice. We carry heavy bags of compost and move heavy clay pots around. Sometimes the bugs get into the saplings and we have to deal with that. People stop by on their way home to pick up something for their balcony. We don't have a computer system; we just write things down in a notebook. The hose is always leaking a little bit somewhere. My clothes are usually stained with mud by the time we close up. It’s a simple life, just looking after things that grow. We’ve been on this road for a long time now. We recognize the regulars who come in every season for their seeds. It feels good to see the plants leaving for new homes.
