Haryana Ki Handi is located on Zoo Road in Halu Bazar, right within the Hooda Market area of Bhiwani. This part of town is always crowded, and the noise from the bazaar is something you just get used to after a week of working here. We have a small spot in Sector-13 that mostly focuses on cooking in handis, which is how we’ve always done it. The smell of the spices usually fills the small space by noon, and that’s when the first few people start wandering in. It’s a very local vibe, and I know many of the shopkeepers nearby who come over for their lunch break. The shop itself is nothing special to look at, just some sturdy furniture and the kitchen area where the pots are simmering. Bhiwani can get very cold in the winter, so the heat from the stoves is actually quite nice during those months. We have to deal with the usual market issues, like the narrow roads getting blocked by delivery trucks or the electricity going off during a storm. I spend a lot of time making sure we have enough firewood or gas for the day. It’s a simple way to make a living, and it keeps us busy from morning until late at night when the market finally goes quiet. We just keep stirring the pots and serving whoever is hungry.
