Sabsons International Pvt. Ltd. is at 7, Water Loo Street. It’s a classic Kolkata address. The building has that old-fashioned look with the thick walls that stay surprisingly cool even in the middle of the summer. We are on one of the middle floors. The elevator is one of those old cage types that can be a bit temperamental, so we usually just take the stairs unless we’re carrying something heavy up to the office. Water Loo Street is a narrow one, and it’s always full of people and vendors. We’ve been here long enough that we know all the regular faces in the neighborhood. Our office is pretty simple. We have some heavy wooden cabinets that have been here longer than I have. There’s always a stack of files somewhere that needs sorting. We don’t go for the fancy glass-and-steel look you see in the new buildings. It’s more about having a solid place to work every day. The tea here is good, we get it from the stall right downstairs by the entrance. Most of our day is spent on the phone or handling various types of paperwork. It can get pretty loud when the traffic outside gets stuck, which happens almost every single afternoon. But we like being in the center of things. It’s a practical location and we don't see ourselves moving anywhere else soon.
