Wild Spice

You can find us at 96 Residency Road, right in the heart of the city. It’s a fast-paced area and the noise from the cars outside never really stops. Our place is tucked into the ground floor of the building. We start every morning by grinding the spices we need for the day. The smell is so strong it usually stays on our clothes even after we go home. We don't have much space for sitting, so it’s a bit tight when more than five people are inside. We have a small counter where we take orders and a tiny kitchen in the back. It’s amazing how much food we can get out of such a small stove. We use old metal plates and heavy spoons. The floor is made of stone and it stays cool even when the kitchen is hot. We don’t do any advertising; people just walk in because they smell what we’re cooking from the sidewalk. Sometimes we run out of gas in the middle of a shift and have to wait for the new cylinder to arrive. It’s those little things that keep us on our feet. We just try to keep the place clean and the food hot for everyone. Most of the time it’s just one or two of us working the whole shift. It gets tiring but we like the routine of it and the people we meet.
