Vijaya Building Materials

If you walk down Bull Temple Road in Basavanagudi, you'll find us at 41/1. Vijaya Building Materials has been a fixture here for many years. It’s a dusty business, selling sand, bricks, and bags of cement. We open up early in the morning, usually before the traffic really picks up. The Bull Temple is just a short walk away, so we get a lot of people passing by on their way to pray. Our shop is filled with samples and piles of supplies. It isn't organized like a supermarket; you have to know where to look. My hands are usually dry from handling all the stone and lime. We deal with small contractors and regular homeowners who are just trying to fix a leaky wall or build a small extension. The staff we have here are like family; we’ve worked together for a long time. Sometimes we sit outside on the stone steps when there aren't any customers. Basavanagudi has a specific feel to it, very traditional and busy. We try to keep up with what the local builders need. It's hard work, especially when we have to unload a whole truck of bricks by hand. But it’s what we do. We don't have any big slogans or missions. We just sell the materials people need to build their lives. The air is always full of the smell of wet sand and the sound of the temple bells in the distance.
