The Brigade School

You can find The Brigade School right in the middle of JP Nagar. It’s a busy part of South Bangalore, and we are right in the thick of it. The school day starts pretty early for us. We arrive before the sun is fully up to get things ready for when the kids show up. It isn't a huge mystery what we do—we just run a school. There are classrooms to manage and a playground that always needs some attention after the kids have been on it. We have kids from all over the neighborhood coming in every day. The noise is constant, but you get used to it. Sometimes the neighbors might complain if we’re too loud during a sports day, but mostly everyone is used to having us here. We don’t spend much on fancy decorations. Most of our stuff is practical. We have chairs, tables, and plenty of books stacked in the cupboards. The staff room is usually a mess of papers and half-drunk cups of tea, which is just how we work. Dealing with schedules and exams keeps us busy most of the year. We have a lot of old-fashioned ways of doing things, like writing everything down in big ledgers. It works for us. The trees in the yard give some nice shade during the hot months. We just focus on the basics here. There’s no secret formula, just a bunch of people working together to get the job done.
