Suchitra Tiffin Centre

Suchitra Tiffin Centre is right on Shivaji Road in the Bapat Wada area of Banaswadi. If you come by early in the morning, you’ll see the steam rising from our large metal pots. We start well before the sun comes up to get the batter ready for the day. Tiffin is a serious business in this part of town, and people expect things to be fresh. We don’t have much in the way of seating; it’s mostly a place where people stand around the counters or take their food to go. There’s a lot of clinking of metal spoons against plates and the sound of the pressure cooker whistling in the back. We don't bother with fancy menus or colorful pictures on the walls. We just write what we have on a small board. The floors are stone and they stay cool, which is nice when the kitchen gets hot. We’ve been serving the same items for a long time because that’s what people around Banaswadi like. Our regulars don’t even have to order; we see them coming and already know what to put on the plate. It’s a fast pace, and we don't have time for small talk when the line is out the door. We just focus on getting the food out hot and making sure the chutney is spicy enough. It’s hard work, but it’s what we know. We close up when the food runs out.
