Subway

Our place is at number 81 in the Kalewadi area of Jayanagar. It’s a pretty standard building on a street that stays busy from sunup to sundown. We have a large glass front so you can see right inside from the sidewalk. Inside, we have the usual counter setup and a few rows of seating against the wall. The air conditioner is usually running because it gets quite stuffy when there are more than five people waiting in line. We spend a lot of time wiping down the glass and making sure the floors aren’t sticky. There’s a particular rhythm to the day, with the lunch hour being the wildest part of it. We have a back room where we keep all the extra napkins and boxes, and it’s always a bit of a mess back there no matter how much we tidy up. The neighborhood has changed a lot since we first moved in, but our spot stays mostly the same. We get a lot of students from the nearby colleges and workers taking their break. It’s a lot of standing on your feet all day, but we have a good laugh together when things aren’t too hectic. The lighting is bright, maybe a bit too bright sometimes, but it lets us see what we’re doing. It’s just a reliable spot on a familiar street where we do our thing every single day.
