Sri Venkateshwara Spices

You can find Sri Venkateshwara Spices inside the A.P.M.C Yard. We are located near the road that leads to Mukthi Dhama. Working in the yard means our days are dictated by the arrival of trucks and the ringing of auction bells. It’s a dusty place, full of the smell of dry chilies and sacks of grain. We focus on spices, so we spend a lot of time sorting and weighing different lots. The shed we work in is large and open to the air, which helps when the spice dust gets too thick. We have a few old scales that we trust more than the new digital ones. Our hands always feel a bit gritty by the end of the shift. The yard is a community of its own, and we have been part of it for a long time. We know the other traders and the farmers who bring their crops in. It’s not a fancy office job. We wear simple clothes that we don't mind getting dirty. There are no meetings or mission statements here. We just look at the quality of the spices and decide on a price. When it rains, the yard gets very messy with all the mud, but the work doesn't stop. We just pull the tarps over the bags and keep going. It’s a tough way to make a living, but it feels right to us. We finish our work and go home tired.
