Sri Venkateshwara North Karnataka Specialities

We are located over by the Bangalore GPO in the Parvati area. Sri Venkateshwara North Karnataka Specialities is where we bring the food we grew up with to the city. It’s a very simple setup. We don't have air conditioning or fancy menus with pictures. We just have a chalkboard where we write what we made for the day. Most of what we serve is stuff like jowar roti and different types of spicy curries that people from North Karnataka recognize. It takes a lot of effort to make the rotis by hand every day. My hands are usually covered in flour by ten in the morning. We have a few ladies who help with the cooking because they know the traditional way of doing things. The GPO area is always busy with people mailing letters or doing government work, so we get a lot of people stopping in for a quick lunch. It can get very hot in the afternoons, so we keep the fans running at full speed. Sometimes we run out of the special chutney and people get a bit disappointed, but we just tell them to come back tomorrow. We don't try to be anything we aren't. We are just a bunch of people from the north part of the state trying to make a living here in Bangalore by cooking what we know.
