Sri Krishna Tiffen Center

At Sri Krishna Tiffen Center over in Kamakshi Palya Mukund Nagar 1103, the day starts while it is still dark outside. I usually get here around five to start getting the water boiling. There is always a lot of steam in the air, which makes my hair feel damp almost immediately. The stove is old and has its temperaments, but we know how to handle it. By six, the first few people show up, usually workers on their way to a shift or guys who just finished a night watch. We do not have much room for people to sit, so most just stand around the tall tables or lean against the wall outside. The clatter of steel plates and spoons is the main sound you hear all morning. My hands get pretty tired from serving and cleaning up, but you just get used to the rhythm of it. Mukund Nagar is a busy area, so there is always someone passing by. Sometimes we run out of things earlier than expected and I have to tell people to wait while we get more going. It is a lot of work and the kitchen stays hot, especially when the sun starts hitting the front of the building. We just keep moving until the morning rush finally dies down and we can take a breather. It is just a simple tiffin place at 1103.
