Sri Ganesh Veg

Sri Ganesh Veg is tucked away on 4th Khetwadi Lane, at number 121 in Kasturi Nagar. It’s a bit of a walk from the main road, but people find us anyway. We spend a lot of our time sitting on small stools chopping vegetables. There are always sacks of potatoes and onions sitting in the corner near the back door. The kitchen is simple with a few big burners and some heavy pots. We don't have a menu that changes much; we just make the same reliable things every day. Some of us have been working here since the shop first opened. We know which table has the wobbly leg and which light switch you have to flip twice to get it to work. The lane outside is narrow, so it stays mostly quiet except for the occasional scooter passing by. We keep a radio playing in the back sometimes, but usually, it’s just the sound of the knives hitting the cutting boards. When the lunch hour starts, we have to move quickly to get the plates out. We don't use anything fancy for serving, just standard steel plates that we scrub clean at the end of every shift. It’s a steady kind of life here in Kasturi Nagar. We close up once the sun goes down and everything is put away for the next morning. Sometimes we sit outside for a minute before locking up.
