Down on Bhavani Shankar Road, number 401, is where we handle everything for Sonnie Foods. We are in the Anand Nagar area. The kitchen starts early, usually before the sun is even up. You can smell whatever we are making from the sidewalk. It’s a lot of manual work, bags being moved around and ingredients being weighed. We have a small team of people who have been with us for a long time. The floor is always clean but the counters are usually covered in flour or spices. We don't have a big storefront, mostly just the production area and a small space for records. Delivery vans come and go all day, taking up the space out front. It gets a bit hectic around noon when the main batches are ready. We take turns taking breaks so the work never stops. The heat from the ovens is pretty intense in the summer months. We just open the back doors and hope for a breeze. It’s honest work and we like being in this part of town. People in Anand Nagar know us by the smell of the food. We don't spend money on fancy signs or marketing. We just make the food and get it out the door. It’s a simple routine that we’ve stuck to for years. The days are long, but we’re used to it. There is always a lot to do before we can close up.
