Working at the APMC market in Yeshwanthpur is a whole different world. Our place is at number 57 on the 5th line. If you’ve ever been here, you know it’s crowded and loud from about four in the morning. Trucks are everywhere, and laborers are moving sacks of grain and vegetables constantly. We fit right into that chaos. Our day starts when most people are still asleep. We deal with food supplies, and there is never a dull moment. The noise of the market is something you just stop hearing after a while. We have a small space, but we make it work. Most of our time is spent talking to traders or checking the quality of the sacks coming in. It’s dusty, and during the rains, it gets a bit messy underfoot, but that’s just how the market is. We don’t have a fancy showroom or a place for people to sit and drink coffee. It’s a working warehouse through and through. We’ve been on this line for years, and we know all the other shop owners nearby. We help each other out with change or moving a vehicle if it’s blocking the way. It’s a tough life sometimes, especially with the long hours, but there’s a sense of community in Yeshwanthpur that you won’t find in the newer parts of the city. We just keep our heads down and do our business every single day without making a big fuss about it. We’ve been here long enough to see the whole city grow around this market.
