Shaadi Ki Biryani

You can find us on the mezzanine floor of the Jansons Building, which is right on Commercial Street in Bangalore. We are No. 75-76, directly across from the Max Showroom. It’s a very crowded area, as anyone who shops in Bangalore knows. Our name is Shaadi Ki Biryani. We spend most of our mornings getting the big pots ready. Biryani takes a lot of time to get right, and we start early before the shops on the street even open their doors. The mezzanine floor is a bit of a climb, but people find their way up. It’s usually loud with the sound of the market outside and the kitchen inside. We don’t have a fancy dining room. It’s more about the food and getting it to people quickly. Sometimes the spices make us sneeze while we’re mixing them, and the heat from the stoves is no joke in the afternoons. We aren't trying to win any awards; we just want to make the kind of food people actually enjoy eating. We see all kinds of people, from shoppers with tons of bags to local workers on a short break. Dealing with the crowd on Commercial Street is a daily challenge, especially on weekends when you can barely move outside. We just keep our heads down and keep the rice moving. It’s a busy, messy, wonderful job.
