Malleshwaram is a place with a lot of tradition, and being on Sampige Road means there is never a dull moment. The shop is usually humming with the sound of people talking and the occasional bell from a nearby temple. We have glass counters that we spend a lot of time wiping down because of all the fingerprints. It’s not a massive showroom with bright neon lights. It’s more of a local spot where people feel comfortable walking in and looking around. We have some wooden racks and some stools for when customers want to sit for a minute. The staff here has been around for a long time, so we don't really need to look at manuals or price lists too often. We know the stock like the back of our hands. Sometimes the rain comes down hard and we have to pull the displays back from the doorway. We don't use a lot of fancy sales talk. We just tell people what we have and let them decide. In the evenings, the flower sellers outside make the whole air smell nice. We usually close up around eight or nine, depending on how many people are still wandering the streets. It’s a good place to be, and we enjoy the daily rhythm of the market.
