S T Roadways

S T Roadways is based at 13/14 Madivala, which is a place that never really sleeps. Being near the I O C Petrol Pump means there is a constant sound of engines idling and the smell of fuel floating through our open door. Most of our time is spent looking at clipboards and talking to drivers who have been on the road for way too many hours. The office is a bit cramped with all the registers and the old wooden chairs we have had since the start. We handle a lot of freight moving through here, and the dust from the street settles on everything if we don’t wipe the desks down every few hours. It’s a practical kind of job where you learn to deal with delays and traffic jams as just a normal part of the day. Madivala gets really packed in the evenings, so we usually see a lot of people stopping by to ask for directions or just to check on their shipments. We don’t have any fancy waiting rooms or soft carpets, just a concrete floor and a big map on the wall that is starting to peel at the corners. It’s just us here, making sure the trucks get loaded and sent off to wherever they need to go next. Sometimes we sit outside on the plastic stools when it’s quiet, just watching the buses go by and waiting for the next big delivery to arrive at our gate. It is a lot of waiting.
