Receptionist

Down here on 36th Cross, right on the East End Main Road, things never really slow down. I work as a receptionist in Jayanagar 9th Block. If you know Bangalore, you know Jayanagar 69 is a busy area with lots of trees and even more cars. My office is at number 259. It is a good location because I can walk to a lot of small shops during my lunch break. The building isn't brand new, so the elevator sometimes has a mind of its own. I usually just take the stairs anyway. At my desk, I spend a lot of time sorting through envelopes and directing people to the right rooms. Jayanagar has a specific feel to it, very different from the rest of Bangalore. It feels more established. My job is to be the face of the place, which just means I smile and try to be helpful. I have a lot of notebooks where I keep track of appointments. Sometimes I lose my favorite pen and it ruins my mood for a few minutes, but then a new visitor comes in and I forget about it. The street noise can be a bit loud in the afternoons, but I have learned to tune it out. I have been working here for a while and I know the postman and the tea seller quite well. It is a comfortable routine for me. I just do my job and go home to my family.
