Prakash Engineers

Prakash Engineers has been sitting here on Charni Road for a long time now, specifically at house number 28 in the Basavanagudi area. If you walk past, you’ll probably hear the sound of machines running or someone hammering away at something metal. It’s a bit of a cramped space because we have a lot of heavy equipment taking up the floor. There are stacks of blueprints and metal scraps in the corners, and the smell of oil is pretty much always there. We don’t really bother with making the place look like a showroom because that isn't what we do. We spend our mornings checking over drawings and then the rest of the day is spent actually building or fixing parts. It’s a lot of manual work and getting our hands dirty is just part of the routine. The light coming through the front windows isn't the best, so we have these big overhead lamps that we keep on all day. Neighbors know us by name, and sometimes someone will just drop by to ask for a bit of advice on a project they’re doing at home. We just take things one job at a time, making sure we don’t rush and mess things up. It’s steady work, and we like being part of the noise and bustle of this street. There’s always something to weld or a part that needs a bit of grinding down to fit right before the sun goes down.
