Down in Shivaji Nagar 27, you’ll find New Taj B C. It’s a busy spot in a busy part of town. Most days are a bit of a blur because of how many people are walking around outside. We’ve been at this spot for quite some years now. The shop isn’t very big, so things can get a bit tight when everyone wants their tea at the same time. There’s always a kettle whistling or someone shouting an order over the noise of the street. We don't really have a big staff, just a couple of guys who have worked together forever. We know how each other works without even talking much anymore. The floor gets a bit messy with sugar and tea leaves during the rush, but we sweep it up when things quiet down in the afternoon. It's mostly locals who come in, people who live right around the block or work in the small shops nearby. We don't spend money on advertising or fancy signs. The sign we have is a bit faded from the sun, but everyone knows where we are anyway. Sometimes the electricity goes out and we have to use candles or torches, but the stove still works so the tea keeps coming. It’s a simple life running a place like this. We just open the shutters, serve who comes in, and close up when the sun goes down. It’s loud, it’s a bit dusty, but it’s home for us.
