Matts Corner

Matts Corner has been part of the noise on Jewellery Street for quite a while now. Being right here in the Commercial Street area at No.- 6, things get pretty crowded, especially on the weekends when everyone is out shopping. Our shop is packed with all sorts of mats, from the rough ones you put outside your front door to softer stuff for the bathroom or kitchen. We spend a lot of time just moving stacks around so people can see what’s at the bottom of the pile. It gets dusty, and the air smells like jute and rubber most days. We don’t have a big team or a fancy setup. It’s just us helping whoever walks in from the street. Sometimes the store feels a bit small for everything we try to keep in stock, but we make it work by using every inch of the walls. People come in looking for something specific to wipe their boots on, and we usually have it somewhere in the back. The street outside is always full of people and bikes, so it can be a bit of a squeeze getting deliveries in and out. We usually open up early before the main rush starts just to get a bit of organizing done. It’s a simple business, really. We just sell mats and try to keep things moving in this busy part of town.
