You can find Mark Engineering Company over on Silver Jubilee Park Road, specifically in M S Lane. This part of the city, S J P Road, is basically the heart of all things mechanical and industrial. Our workshop at number 5 is usually filled with the sound of machines running or someone hammering away at a piece of metal. It’s not the kind of place where you’d want to wear a clean white shirt. There’s grease on the handles and the floor is stained from years of engineering work. We’ve got tools hanging on every available bit of wall space. It’s a bit cramped inside because we try to fit a lot of equipment into a small area, but it works for us. The lane outside is narrow and always packed with people moving stuff back and forth on trolleys. Sometimes it’s a struggle just to get a vehicle through to the front door. We don't spend any time making the place look pretty because that’s not what people come to us for. They come because we know our way around the machines and the metal. We’ve been here long enough that we know most of the other shop owners on the street. It’s a tight-knit community of tradespeople. We just get on with the jobs as they come in, working through the pile of drawings and parts until the day is done and we can lock up.
