Mahendra Enterprises is tucked away in Shop No-3 in the Mamulpet area of Chickpet. If you know Chickpet, you know how crowded and narrow the lanes can get, especially on the weekends. Our shop isn't very large, but we manage to fit a lot of stock into the shelves. Most of our day is spent helping people who come in looking for specific items for their own shops or homes. It’s a very traditional way of doing business where we talk face-to-face and handle things manually. The noise from the street is constant—carts rattling by, people shouting, and the general hum of the market. We have been in Mamulpet for a long time, so we know most of the other shopkeepers around here. We usually start the morning with a quick cleanup and then it’s straight into business until the shutters go down at night. There’s no air conditioning, just a ceiling fan that does its best during the summer months. We don't use any fancy computer systems for everything; a lot of it is still kept in notebooks and memory. It can get exhausting dealing with the crowds every day, but it’s also what keeps the business going. We don’t have any big slogans or goals other than just making sure our customers get what they came for at a fair price. It’s a busy, cramped, and honest way to make a living in the heart of the city.
