You can find us at 75 Magadi Road in Bangalore. We are right by the old Gayathri Kalyan Mantap, which is a big landmark for anyone trying to find the place. Being in the garment industry means our floors are always covered in bits of thread and fabric scraps. The sound of sewing machines is the background noise of our lives here. We have a lot of tailors and cutters who have been with Motherland Garments for a long time. Bangalore has changed a lot over the years, but Magadi Road still feels like the old part of town. We make all sorts of clothes, mostly focusing on bulk orders for other businesses. It's not a fashion runway here. It’s more about making sure the seams are straight and the buttons are sewn on tight. We don't spend any money on fancy websites or advertisements. Most of our work comes from people who have known us for years. The building is an older one, so it has its quirks, like the elevator that sometimes gets stuck between floors. We have our lunch together and talk about the local news. It’s a practical environment. We don't have many meetings; we just get to the tables and start working. When the monsoon hits, the roof leaks a little in the far corner, but we just move the fabric and keep going. It’s honest, hard work every day.
