L. N. Silk Fabrics

We run our silk business from the first floor on 2nd Cross in Shankarpuram. If you find the Govt. Middle School or the Rama Mandira, we are just right behind there. It’s a bit of a tucked-away spot, but that makes it quieter for looking at fabrics. We’ve been dealing with silk for quite some time now. The shelves are packed with different rolls of cloth in all sorts of colors. We spend a lot of time checking the weave and making sure there aren't any snags. It’s dusty work, even with the silk, because of all the threads flying around. We don’t have a big window display or a lot of bright lights. It’s just a room where we work and show people the material. Most of our customers are locals who have been coming to this part of Shankarpuram for years. We aren't trying to be a big fashion house. We just provide the fabric that people need for their clothes or ceremonies. Sometimes we have tea with the customers while they decide what they want. It’s a slow process, but you can’t rush silk. We keep our records in a simple book and try to keep the space organized, though it gets messy when we are busy. It is an honest way to earn a living, and we like being part of this neighborhood.
