Kukaz Salon

Kukaz Salon is up on the 2nd floor of Garuda Mall on Magrath Road. Being in a mall is a bit different than being on a street corner. There’s always music playing in the hallways and people walking by the glass windows. We are near Bangalore Centre, so it’s easy to find us if you’re already doing some shopping. The salon is quite bright because of all the mall lighting. We have several chairs and a few sinks in the back for washing hair. Working in a mall means we stay open quite late, usually until the mall closes. We see a lot of different people, from teenagers hanging out to families on their weekend outings. It’s a fast-paced environment and we’re always on our feet. Sometimes we get a lot of people all at once and the waiting area gets full. We try to keep things organized but sometimes it's hard when it's a Saturday afternoon. The air conditioning is always running, which is good because it gets hot in Bangalore. We don’t really do any big advertisements; people just see us when they’re going to the food court or the movies. It’s a busy life here at Garuda Mall. We just keep our scissors sharp and our mirrors clean and take it one day at a time. It’s a lot of work but it’s what we do for a living now.
