J S Masala Co

The shop at Kamakshi Palya Lakshmi Market is where we spend most of our hours. J S Masala Co has been at this Old Madrass Road 61/7 address for quite some time now. If you know the market, you know it gets really crowded, especially on the weekends when everyone is out buying things for their kitchens. We are right in the thick of it. The space isn't huge, but we make it work with what we have. There are stacks of bags and containers everywhere you look. Usually, the air smells quite strong because of everything we handle here. It’s a smell you get used to after a couple of days, though visitors always notice it right away. My desk is tucked in the back corner where it’s a bit quieter, but you can still hear the noise from the market outside. We don’t really have a big staff, just a few of us who know where everything is kept. Sometimes it’s hard to find a specific item if it gets moved, but we eventually get it sorted out. The building itself is old, with some cracks in the walls and a heavy door that squeaks every time someone walks in. We keep meaning to fix that door, but we never quite get around to it. Life at 61/7 is mostly about keeping up with the orders and making sure the floor stays somewhat clean amidst all the dust. It’s busy work, but it keeps us on our toes and the days go by fast enough.
