Over in Jaipur, Ibm India Pvt Ltd is based at 590 Barkat Nagar. We are right by Tonk Phatak, which is a place that’s always moving with people. The Rajasthan heat is no joke, so we spend a lot of time inside with the heavy curtains drawn to keep the sun from glaring on our screens. Our office isn’t a massive, shiny complex. It’s a simple building where we’ve set up our desks and computers over the years. There are heaps of papers on some desks and old coffee cups on others. It feels like a real workplace because it actually is one. We don’t have a receptionist in a suit or a fancy waiting lounge with leather chairs. If you walk in, you’re likely to see someone typing away or talking on the phone about a technical problem that needs solving. The neighborhood is full of life, with students and shoppers everywhere you look. We usually go out for a quick bite at the local kachori stalls when we need a break. The office itself is a bit tight, especially when everyone is in at the same time and the fans are on full blast. We’ve gotten used to the layout and the quirks of the building. It’s not a showpiece, just a place where we put in the hours and do our jobs. We handle the work as it comes and try to stay on top of the pile. It’s a straightforward way to live.
